KUCHING, Jan 24: Sarawak’s digital commerce drive continues to show positive results, with nearly RM12 million in sales recorded by local sellers on TikTok Shop in 2025.

Deputy Premier and Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED) Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, whose speech was read by MINTRED advisor Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais, said more than 350 local entrepreneurs are now active sellers on digital platforms after completing Sarawak Digital Mall (SDM) training programmes.

“Today, we gather at a location of great significance, the Kuching Waterfront–which has long borne witness to the journey of trade and development in Sarawak.

“While the channels of trade have evolved, our priority remains the same, ensuring that economic opportunities are accessible to the people of Sarawak.

“Digitalisation is no longer a supplementary component of the economic framework; it is a strategic necessity,” he said when speaking at the SDM TikTok Shop Carnival ‘Pesta Lokal’ held at the Kuching Waterfront last night (Jan 23).

He further said platforms such as TikTok Shop allow businesses to expand beyond geographical boundaries at a lower cost.

Awang Tengah also noted that SDM focuses on equipping local entrepreneurs with practical skills to help them succeed in the digital marketplace.

“The results speak for themselves. In 2025 alone, sellers in Sarawak generated nearly RM12 million in sales value through TikTok Shop,” he added.

Participants also benefitted from the Sarawak government’s Seller Incentive Package, which includes vouchers, advertising credits and affiliate incentives worth up to RM5,000 per eligible seller.

In addition, Awang Tengah highlighted the Amazing Penan Store in Miri as a success story, with sales increasing by about 120 per cent and more than 30 Penan women weavers now earning steady monthly incomes.

Awang Tengah reaffirmed the Sarawak government’s commitment to inclusive digital growth under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

“Let us work together to elevate Sarawak’s entrepreneurs and digital economy to the global stage,” he concluded.
