Sarawak delegation visits Tech Barcelona for Sarawak Tech City development

KUCHING, March 6: The Sarawak delegation, led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, visited Tech Barcelona to advance discussions on the development of Sarawak Tech City, Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) reported.

The delegation included Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol, UKAS director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan, and senior Sarawak Government officials.

The visit, held on Wednesday (March 5), aimed to strengthen collaboration with Barcelona’s dynamic technology ecosystem by leveraging expertise in innovation, smart city solutions, and digital transformation to position Sarawak as a regional technology and entrepreneurship hub.

The delegation was welcomed by Jordi Pol, Chairman of the Malaysian Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Industry (La Cámara).

Discussions focused on digital infrastructure, talent development, startup incubation, and industry-academia collaboration, drawing insights from Barcelona’s success as a global innovation hub.

The visit marks a key milestone in the ongoing cooperation between Sarawak and Barcelona, reinforcing Sarawak’s vision of developing a world-class tech ecosystem and establishing itself as a significant player in Southeast Asia’s digital economy.

UKAS further reported that this collaboration was first initiated during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 and has since been actively pursued through a strategic partnership led by Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC).

The ongoing engagement highlights Sarawak’s commitment to international cooperation and its ambition to foster a sustainable, knowledge-based economy through the Sarawak Tech City initiative. – DayakDaily
