KUCHING, May 7: Sarawak has taken a significant step forward in its drive to develop its semiconductor industry and green hydrogen economy, following high-level discussions with global investment powerhouse Ardian in Paris on Tuesday (May 6).

The Sarawak delegation, led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, engaged with Ardian’s Hy24 and semiconductor teams in a strategic meeting aimed at attracting investment and accelerating industrial transformation in Sarawak.

During the session, the delegation showcased Sarawak’s strengths in renewable energy—particularly its untapped 20GW hydroelectric potential—and its emerging semiconductor ecosystem, bolstered by proactive State-led initiatives and global partnerships, including its collaboration with the UK-based CSA Catapult.

“Ardian’s expertise in scaling semiconductor ventures and clean hydrogen infrastructure aligns with Sarawak’s vision to build a diversified, high-value industrial base.
“We see clear opportunities for investment, technology transfer, and ecosystem development that will accelerate our industrial transformation,” Awang Tengah emphasised in a statement today.

Among the key outcomes of the meeting was Ardian’s commitment to conduct further due diligence on Sarawak’s semiconductor and green hydrogen projects.

This includes identifying potential investible companies through future engagements with InvestSarawak.

Discussions also centred on creating a robust downstream ecosystem to support the State’s ambitions, with a particular focus on expanding opportunities for Sarawak-based small and medium enterprises (SMEs). — DayakDaily
