KUCHING, July 21: July 22 is not merely a day to commemorate history, but a symbol of the spirit of Sarawakians who remain united, respectful of one another, and committed to working hand in hand towards the progress of the State, said Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
In his Sarawak Day 2026 message, Abang Johari said the historic occasion serves as a reminder of Sarawak’s journey in building a future anchored on unity, stability and prosperity.
He said the State’s diverse communities, cultures and religions, which form the unique identity of Sarawak, remain its greatest strength.
“With the spirit of ‘Segulai Sejalai’ (together in unity), let us continue moving forward, strengthening unity, driving development and ensuring that prosperity can be enjoyed by all Sarawakians,” he said.
Abang Johari said the Sarawak government remained committed to realising the aspirations of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) by transforming Sarawak into an advanced, high-income region.
He said the transformation would be driven by key sectors including the digital economy, green energy, innovation, human capital development and efficient governance.
“Insya-Allah, with commitment, confidence and cooperation from all parties, Sarawak will continue to achieve success as an advanced, sustainable and high-income region for the benefit of present and future generations,” he said.
Abang Johari extended his wishes for a meaningful Sarawak Day 2026, reaffirming the State’s vision towards becoming a more developed and prosperous Sarawak.
Sarawak Day is observed annually on July 22 to commemorate the day Sarawak attained self-governance in 1963, ahead of the formation of Malaysia on Sept 16, 1963. — DayakDaily
