KUCHING, July 14: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak holds that its prediction on Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) becoming the “Opposition for one State election” has come true following yesterday’s (July 13) announcement that PSB is collaborating with Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), a member of ruling coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
To DAP Sarawak, it was not a surprise that PSB has now applied to rejoin GPS, though through PDP.
“In fact, my prediction about PSB has come true. It (PSB) has lasted only one State election as the Opposition party.
“Right from the beginning, I have cautioned about the agenda of PSB as the ‘Opposition’ in the 2021 State Elections.
“Now that PSB has applied to rejoin GPS, it is clear to all Sarawakians that PSB is just an offshoot of GPS and will ultimately return to the fold of GPS,” said DAP Sarawak chief Chong Chieng Jen in a press statement today.
He speculated that whether PSB will merge with PDP, will depend on the two options that works best for GPS.
The first option is that PSB continues to “disguise” itself as an Opposition third force to split Opposition votes and the second, by joining forces to consolidate itself and PDP under GPS.
“However, I strongly believe that Sarawak voters may buy into the PSB’s Opposition narrative once but not a second time,” said Chong, who is also Padungan assemblyman and Stampin MP.
PDP officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PSB for collaboration in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. However, specific details of their collaboration have not been disclosed. — DayakDaily
