KUCHING, Nov 29: Sarawak is currently evaluating a proposal for a hyperscale green data centre worth RM17.6 billion, says Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
For the record, a statement posted on the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) website states that a hyperscale green data centre testbed and training programme is poised to be established in Sarawak through the collaboration involving clean energy solutions provider Solarvest Holdings Bhd, the Sarawak Foundation’s subsidiary Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs), Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, and GreenBay CES Sdn Bhd.
The statement explained that the establishment of the hyperscale green data centre testbed and training programme is expected to spur research and development collaborations and intellectual property creation in clean energy solutions.
“Sarawak is becoming more prominent as a destination for digital investment. We are evaluating a proposal for (a) hyperscale green data centre worth RM17.6 billion,” he said when presenting the ministerial winding-up speech during the Second Meeting for the Second Term of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN), which was held at the DUN complex here today.
Awang Tengah, who is also the Second Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development, noted that Sarawak will continue to diversify its digital investment portfolio to build a robust ecosystem. — DayakDaily
