KUCHING, Aug 9: The development of the Sarawak Cancer Centre will be tabled and discussed at the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Committee meeting this coming Monday (Aug 11).

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) report, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said discussions with the Sarawak Health Department have also been held to ensure the centre’s planning meets the actual needs of end-users.

“This matter has been finalised because we are going to build a hospital, so you need to ask the end-users what they need.

“As for the number of beds, I stated during the meeting in April that Sarawak specialists and Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) had proposed 310, so I am sticking to that figure. I strongly support them because 200 beds will not be enough,” he said.

He said this to reporters after officiating at the Batu Kawa National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) here today.

Dr Sim, who is also the Sarawak Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, added that the discussions will be followed by a coordinating meeting of the MA63 Technical Committee, scheduled for August 18.

It is understood that the meeting will be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, while the outcomes of the discussions will subsequently be brought to the final meeting chaired by Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim. — DayakDaily
