KUCHING, Nov 24: Community leaders, Ketua Masyarakat and Ketua Kaum (KMKK), will receive an additional RM400 in monthly remuneration starting January 1, 2026, in view of the rising cost of living and the expanded scope of their responsibilities.
In tabling the Sarawak Budget 2026 at the State Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the last adjustment to their remuneration was made in 2018, with an increase of RM100.
“Since then, the cost of living has continued to rise, and the scope of responsibilities borne by KMKK has expanded significantly.
“In recognition of their service and evolving responsibilities, I am also pleased to announce an increase of RM400 in monthly remuneration for KMKK, involving an additional allocation of RM37 million annually, with effect from January 1, 2026,” he said.
“With over 7,700 appointed leaders, including Temenggong, Pemanca, Penghulu, and Ketua Kaum, they play a vital role in bridging the government and the rakyat.
“They are entrusted with maintaining social harmony, resolving local disputes, and supporting the implementation of government policies at the community level,” he added. – DayakDaily
