KUCHING, Nov 24: Sarawak will allocate RM121 million in 2026 to deliver 1,547 units of affordable housing for low-income (B40) groups, while continuing support for rural communities under the Longhouse Loan Scheme.
According to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the allocation to Housing Development Corporation will fund 11 housing projects across Kuching, Betong, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri, and Limbang.
“Complementing this, RM20 million will be allocated to Mutiara Mortgage and Credit Sdn. Bhd. to support home financing for B40 and M40 groups, ensuring broader access to affordable housing alongside the ongoing housing development projects,” he said during the tabling of the Sarawak Budget 2026 at the Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.
As of September 2025, RM83.5 million has been successfully disbursed to 1,371 eligible home buyers.
Meanwhile, the Longhouse Loan Scheme will continue to provide interest-free loans in the form of building materials and hardware to rural communities, with RM30,000 per door for refurbishment and RM50,000 per door for new construction.
Sarawak Budget 2026 sets aside RM50 million annually to ensure eligible longhouses can maintain safe and dignified living conditions.
“From 2022 to September 2025, RM313 million has been disbursed benefiting 391 longhouses, encompassing a total of 8,033 doors across Sarawak,” he said. — DayakDaily
