Sarawak Biodiversity Centre to host Biodiversity Day 2020 programme online

Interactive games are among the many IBD 2020 online activities lined up by SBC.

KUCHING, May 17: The Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) will mark International Biodiversity Day (IBD) 2020 through digital channels in line with the Movement Control Order (MCO) standard operating procedure (SOP).

According to SBC, this is the first time since 2010 the centre will celebrate this public event online via their social media account, which gives it a new dimension and outreach.

“To celebrate the many benefits that nature has to offer, SBC invites everyone to join in its online activities lined up throughout the month of May, such as a photography contest that showcases “Nature through my Lens”, interactive science-based games, videos on how indigenous communities utilise local plants, herbal plants giveaway and many more.

“Social media users are encouraged to “Like” or “Follow” SBC’s official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/sarawak.biodiversity.centre for more updates and be part of the celebration and a mystery gift could be yours,” SBC revealed in a statement today.

SBC noted that the IBD theme this year is “Our Solutions are in Nature”, which emphasises hope, solidarity, and the importance of working together at all levels to build a future of life in harmony with nature.

“The world learned that the recent pandemic caused by the novel SARS COV2 virus originated from wildlife. However, it is incredible to know that some scientists have been trying look for an answer to fight this pandemic from nature itself, in the form of natural products and herbal medicines,” SBC added.
