SIBU, June 13: Sarawak Baru Alliance (Sarawak Baru) will apply to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to be a registered political coalition, hopefully in time for the next Sarawak election that is due by 2021.
Sarawak Baru spokesperson Lina Soo, who is the president of State Reform Party (STAR), said the application would be submitted sometime this year, and that the proposed coalition would comprise STAR, Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB) and Sarawak Workers Party (SWP).
“We will do it this year. And if there is no approval from RoS (before the Sarawak Election), we will decide what to do then. We will cross the bridge when we come to it.
“We need to align together to be a stronger force to go against GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) and PH (Pakatan Harapan),” Soo told DayakDaily.
She did not discount the possibility of the three component parties contesting on their own if the coalition failed to seek approval from RoS on time.
On a related matter, Soo said Sarawak Baru would invite Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) again since there was a change of its top leadership.
Sarawak Baru had previously invited PBK to join when the party was under its former president Yu Chin Liik. However, PBK did not respond to it.
The party is now helmed by former Batu Lintang assemblyman Voon Lee Shan, who was elected president during the recent party election.
“With the new president, we will extend another invitation to PBK. As the new president has just been elected, we will let them settle down first,” said Soo, adding that Sarawak Baru, in the meantime, would need to hold a meeting on this matter first.
In terms of the official name for the coalition, Soo said no decision had been made yet, but the present name of ‘Sarawak Baru Alliance’ or ‘Sarawak Baru’ seemed to be quite well accepted. — DayakDaily
