KUCHING, Aug 2: The 2023 International Museum Day Sports Championship will feature 400 athletes divided into eight zones competing in nine different sports and games, and Sarawak, as the host, will compete in all sports with a total of 71 contingent members.
According to Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) Sarawak Deputy Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, who spoke at the event, the goal of the sports championship is to foster team spirit and camaraderie among all participants, as well as to serve as a platform to strengthen relationships between museum personnel and to improve collaborations within the museum sector.
“This championship is a good opportunity for all museum personnel to showcase their talents and skills in various sports events and games that will be competed among the representatives of each contingent.
“I found that the events contested in this championship are diverse and inclusive where it welcomes the participation of every personnel from various age categories.
“I was informed that we have carrom, dart, congkak, blowpipe, archery, football, sepak takraw, ping pong, and badminton sports,” Ting said, who represented MTCP Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah to officiate the opening ceremony today at the Sarawak Lawn Bowls Arena in Petra Jaya here.
