KUCHING, Dec 9: The Sarawak Arts Council (MSS) is set to hold a 2023 New Year Countdown programme on Dec 31 at the Kuching Waterfront.

Themed ‘Lets Celebrate Together’, the programme for the countdown will start in the morning with various events lined up such as musical and performing arts displays, with the highlight of the evening being a performance from renown Malaysian artistes such as Datuk Awie, Datuk Wan Aishah Wan Ariffin, including Zeppo Youngsters.

Speaking during a press conference today, Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the last time a new year countdown event was held was two years ago, in hybrid mode.

“This year, we will organise it physically. After the pandemic, it’s only fair for Sarawakians to deserve a celebration to close 2022 with a ‘bang’,” he said.

At the same time, Abdul Karim also reminded those going to the event to not litter.

“Be a responsible citizen during the event. Pick up your own trash,” he added.

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will be the guest of honor for the event.

Among other artist that will be performing are The Crew, Kumpulan Gerini Tari Limbang, The Little Bird Dion Das, Fly High Band, Perintis Orkestra Tradisi Remaja Sarawak (PROTES), SONS Junior, Band D’Jaksa, and many others.

The event will also be streamed live through TVS and Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas). — DayakDaily
