KUCHING, May 27: The Sarawak government has received 95 applications for Temporary Identification Document For Stateless Individuals from Jan 1, 2024 to May 19, 2025 where 35 applications were approved.

Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the remaining 60 applications (63.2%) were rejected due to failure to meet application requirements.

“Among the reasons for rejection were the absence of a birth certificate; the birth certificate was not registered in Sarawak; no citizenship application under Article 15A of the Federal Constitution; and the applicant being over 21 years old,” said Fatimah when delivering her winding up address at Sarawak Legislative Assembly here today.

In the winding-up speech during the last parliamentary session, she had informed that the Sarawak government, on September 26, 2024, had approved the inclusion of the “K” indicator on the identity cards of children who are granted citizenship under Article 15A of the Federal Constitution.

This is an additional policy to be adopted by the National Registration Department (NRD) of Sarawak.

“As of April 30, 2025, the NRD of Sarawak has received and approved 42 applications for the inclusion of the ‘K’ indicator on the identity cards of the children involved,” said Fatimah. — DayakDaily
