KUCHING, April 5: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Sarawak and the Indonesian National Police (POLRI) of West Kalimantan (Kalbar) have agreed on the date for their upcoming Rapat Koordinasi (RAKOR), a key coordination meeting aimed at reinforcing joint border security efforts.
The decision was made during a courtesy visit by the West Kalimantan Police Chief, Inspector General of Police (Irjen Pol) Pipit Rismanto, to Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mancha Ata at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK Sarawak) yesterday.
According to a press release, the meeting, which lasted an hour, saw both sides reaffirm their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation through platforms like RAKOR, which serve as official channels for ensuring the safety and stability of the 1,235-kilometre-long Sarawak–Kalbar border.
“Such collaboration is vital for addressing cross-border crime and maintaining security across shared districts.
“With close cooperation, we can minimise threats and better protect the lives and property of residents on both sides of the border,” said Mancha in a statement.
Currently, seven police districts in Sarawak share borders with five districts in West Kalimantan, making continuous coordination between the two forces critical.
Also discussed were the long-standing working relationship between PDRM Sarawak and POLDA Kalbar, the importance of intelligence sharing, and strategies to improve patrol and enforcement along border areas.
This marks Pipit’s second courtesy call to Mancha, following a previous meeting held on December 8, 2024.
The visit concluded on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their shared responsibility in maintaining regional security and cross-border harmony. – DayakDaily
