KUCHING, Nov 13: A total of RM20 million in cheques were presented to Mission School authorities across Sarawak by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas today.
Uggah, who also serves as the minister in charge of the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), said the allocation aims to upgrade and improve classroom facilities in mission schools throughout the State.
“We will continue to support mission schools. The Sarawak government is taking this initiative because these schools have yet to receive full funding from the federal government.
“With this assistance, we hope that our Anak Sarawak in mission schools will enjoy better and more up-to-date facilities on par with students in other schools,” he said in a statement today.
The funding is distributed in two phases with Phase 1 amounting to RM17.83 million for 126 projects, and Phase 2 amounting to RM2.17 million for 29 projects.
This latest allocation brings the total funding channelled to mission schools from 2021 to 2024 to RM90 million, reaffirming the State government’s continued commitment to education development.
Representing the various Mission Authorities at the event were: Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn (Anglican Diocese of Kuching), Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil (Roman Catholic, Archdiocese of Kuching), Datuk Snowdan Lawan (Roman Catholic, Diocese of Sibu), Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin (Roman Catholic, Diocese of Miri), Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi (Methodist, Iban), and Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Anak Utom (Methodist, Chinese). — DayakDaily
