SARATOK, Feb 6: A premises suspected of running gambling activities on Jalan Wawasan here was dealt a decisive blow on Thursday (Feb 5) when its electricity supply was cut off by the police in collaboration with Sesco.
According to a TVS news, the operation, conducted under Op Dadu, was led by the District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) of Saratok Police District as a proactive measure to curb illegal gambling in the area.
Saratok District Police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the operation was spearheaded by Investigating Officer Inspector Hendry Muji, assisted by BSJD personnel and enforcement officers from the Saratok Sesco branch.
“During inspection, the premises were found openly engaging in gambling activities, in violation of the law,” he said in a statement today.
To halt any further illegal operations, the police, together with SESCO, disconnected the electricity supply to the premises.
“This action is taken under Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 to prevent and curb gambling activities in Saratok District,” Mathew said, adding that the police would not compromise with anyone involved.
He also urged the public to report any gambling activities in their neighborhoods so authorities can take immediate action. — DayakDaily
