Saramanis’ initial batch of pineapples to be harvested soon

TANJUNG MANIS, Jan 22: The first batch of pineapples grown on a 93-acre plantation owned by Saramanis Sdn Bhd is ready to be picked this March.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan had on Monday visited the plantation, which is situated in the Tanjung Manis Halal Hub.

Its executive director, Jason Jong, informed that the MD2, Josapine, N36 and Paun variants were planted in the farm.

“We are optimistic that the export agreement to Hong Kong can be achieved in September this year,” he added.

Jong also shared that his company planned to participate in the downstream industry, such as making pineapple juice as well as getting Tanjung Manis residents involved in the yield purchase programme through the plantation contract programme.

Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh and Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) general manager Hashim Bojet were present. — DayakDaily
