KUCHING, Jan 29: Rescue teams have resumed their search and rescue (SAR) operations for a missing man feared drowned after a cargo ship was found to have capsized off the coast of Kampung Awat-Awat, Lawas, yesterday.
According to a report by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), as at 2pm today, the location of the capsized ship has been found but search and rescue (SAR) teams have yet to find the missing man.
It reported that using an echo sounder, the Sarawak Coast Guard found the location of the ‘Salim 6’ ship.
At 12pm today, divers from the rescue team were sent to assess the ship but found that the condition of the ship was not stable and constantly moving with the tide.
Due to the rain and unfavourable weather conditions, search efforts were put temporarily on halt at 2pm.
Operations resumed after 2.30pm but were halted at 4pm due to deteriorating weather conditions that posed risks to rescuers
Of note, yesterday, a seven-manned cargo ship carrying rocks from Sipitang to Brunei capsized off the coast of Kampung Awat-Awat, Lawas.
Six of the crew members on board were found and rescued while a 42-year-old man has yet to be found. – DayakDaily
