SAR deployed after man jumps into Sarawak river from Satok bridge

KUCHING, March 26: A search and rescue (SAR) operation was deployed after a man was reported to have jumped into Sarawak river from Satok bridged, today.

The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre in a statement today, said they received the call regarding the incident at 3pm, and deployed a team of 10 firefighters from Padungan fire station led by PBK II Abu Bakar, together with Bomba senior officer PKPgB Muhd Mirza Dzalmira Miraj and PKPgB Patihi Ahmad.

“Operation commander TPgB II Melvin Ak Amuk, arriving at the location confirmed the report, and deployed a boat asset to search for the victim using the surface tracing method along the river, and open up a Bomba operation control centre under Satok bridge,” it said.


According to the statement, based on the witness report, the victim, who was driving a sedan vehicle, stopped his car on the bridge before climbing over its railing and jumped into the river.

“The victim tried to swim but was swept by the river current for about 20 meters before disappearing into the river,” the statement added.

The victim was identified as Mohammad Amirul Syahlan Affendi, 27-year old. –DayakDaily.
