KUCHING, July 21: Sarawakians are encouraged to arrive at the Central Padang here by 8am tomorrow morning for the flag raising ceremony and the singing of the State’s old anthem ‘Fair Land Sarawak’ in conjunction with Sarawak Independence Day.
In a statement, Sarawak Association for Peoples’ Aspiration (SAPA) president Dominique Ng stated that after the event at Central Padang, everyone will go up to join the Bau 722 ceremony, which will begin as soon as everyone arrives.
“The police have been notified of both events and are expected to provide all necessary police support and assistance for traffic control and peacekeeping.
“Efforts have been made to sabotage our Bau 722 event, where the permit to use the Bau Dewan Suarah was withdrawn at the last minute due to local political interference.
“But the struggle and onward march for Sarawak Independence will not be stopped or in any way detracted by such minor setbacks,” he said.
Meanwhile, a 722 Sarawak Independence Day celebration will proceed at Bung Orad in Grogo, Bau this year on July 22 with an attempt to create a new Guinness World Record with 1,000 Ngajat dancers, despite the approval permit for the usage of Bau Civic Centre being withdrawn.
Organised by a group of nationalists, one of the main aims of the event, which will mark its 10th anniversary this year, is to urge the Federal government to restore the rightful status of Sarawak and Sabah as equal partners in the Federation of Malaysia. — DayakDaily
