KUCHING, July 29: Samling Timber Malaysia’s decorated boat was crowned champion among 20 boats cruising along the Sarawak River in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of Sarawak’s Independence celebration.
The winner brought home a cash prize of RM10,000 after beating other boats representing various government bodies.
The participating boats were Office of Premier of Sarawak (OPS); Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development (MUDeNR); Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT); Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP); Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD); Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED); Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG); Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (MFICORD); Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD); and Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED).
Others included Ministry of Women, Community Wellbeing and Childhood Development (KPWK); Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty); Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB); Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB); Shin Yang Groups Of Companies; Kuching North City Commission (DBKU); Sarawak Energy Development Corporation (SEDC); Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) and Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS).
In second and third places were OPS and MOTS, respectively.
The event started at 8.15pm and featured an opening performance from the Sarawak Coast Guard of Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS) and a parade of colourful ‘perahu tambang’.
Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was present to grace the Decorated Floats Parade held near Kuching Waterfront here earlier tonight.
Also present were the Premier’s wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang; Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian; and Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
After the parade of decorated floats, the event continued with a music concert joined by Sarawak-born Malaysian singers, namely Dayang Nurfaizah and Hafiz Suip. — DayakDaily
