KUCHING, Feb 14: The Covid-19 situation in the Samarahan district has worsened as it turned into an orange zone of Covid-19 after recording a cumulative 27 cases of local infection in the past fortnight.
However, the coronavirus situation in Bau district has improved after it reverted back to a yellow zone of Covid-19 from an orange zone with a total of 16 cases of local infection in the past two weeks.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a press statement today, said Samarahan has registered 12 cases of Covid-19 with 11 cases identified following active case detection to Covid-19 patients.
It added there was also one case in Samarahan identified from a symptomatic individual who went for Covid-19 screening at the Samarahan health office.
Meanwhile, the committee said Sarawak reported 161 cases of Covid-19 and three fatalities today.
The cases identified were derived from Subis (60), Sibu (45), Bintulu (16), Kapit (15), Samarahan (12), Miri (5), Julau (2), Kuching (1), Sri Aman (1), Saratok (1), Pakan (1), Beluru (1) and Kanowit (1).
The new cases registered have pushed the cumulative cases of Covid-19 in Sarawak to 6,586 cases.
In the meantime, 11 districts namely Subis, Julau, Lundu, Beluru, Kapit, Song, Dalat, Bintulu, Kanowit, Miri and Sibu remained as red zones of Covid-19 with a total of 1,896 cases of local infection in the past 14 days.
The Sri Aman district was classified as an orange zone of Covid-19 with a cumulative 32 cases of local transmission in the past two weeks.
Fourteen districts namely Matu, Selangau, Kuching, Betong, Saratok, Sarikei, Sebauh, Lawas, Bukit Mabong, Tatau, Pakan, Serian, Belaga and Meradong stayed as yellow zones of Covid-19 with a total of 136 cases of local infection in the past fortnight.
There were 12 districts namely Daro, Simunjan, Lubok Antu, Telang Usan, Asajaya, Limbang, Tanjung Manis, Tebedu, Mukah, Pusa, Kabong and Marudi that were cleared of Covid-19 as they are classified as green zone of coronavirus with no local transmission in the past 14 days. —DayakDaily
