KUCHING, May 23: A woman in her late 40s, employed as a sales promoter, fell victim to a scam losing RM125,000 through non-existent online side hustling facilitated by the Dobemall and Dobevil mobile apps.

Sarawak Commissioner of Police Dato Mancha Ata revealed that the scheme began when the woman, who worked at a supermarket in Kota Samarahan, spotted a part-time job advertisement on Facebook.

“The victim later received a message from an individual identifying as Xie Ong Xiang.

“Subsequently, this unknown individual proposed a side hustle opportunity, enticing the victim with promises of additional income as a salesperson through the Dobemall and Dobevil apps, assuring repayment of profits from sales,” he said in a statement today.

Between the end of January and mid-May this year, the victim conducted 18 monetary transactions in increments to 13 different accounts, totalling approximately RM125,000.

The victim only realised she had been deceived when promised payments for the purchases failed to materialise. — DayakDaily
