KUCHING, July 6: Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Salahuddin Ayub today received an assurance that Sarawak will maintain close working relationship with Putrajaya.

He said Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg assured him that Sarawak would work with the federal government of the day for the betterment of the state.

Salahuddin, who spoke to reporters after paying a courtesy call on the chief minister, added that Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud had also given the same assurance when he flew to Kuala Lumpur to meet Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad shortly after the recent last general election.

ā€œSince they (state government) receive me well here, that proves it,ā€ said Salahuddin.

He said despite political differences, where Pakatan Harapan (PH) assemblymen are the opposition in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN), the state government assured that this would not jeopardise federal-state ties.

ā€œThis is important ā€¦ this spirit of (good) relationship between the PH and state government to be reflected in DUN. They may have different opinions or debates but as long as it is for the benefit of the rakyat in this new PH-era,ā€ said Salahuddin. ā€” DayakDaily
