Saberkas Samariang brings 61 underprivileged kids Gawai-Raya shopping

KUCHING, May 25: Sarawak National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Samariang Branch continued the tradition of helping the underprivileged today by providing them with necessities for a joyful Gawai and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Through the Cahaya Gawai Aidilfitri Programme, 61 orphans and the poor under Saberkas Samariang branch were taken to Boulevard Shopping Mall for a festive shopping spree.

Branch deputy president Sulhie Salleh said the programme was the second to be organised since it started last year.

“We hope the support will bring joy and lessen the burden of their families in providing them with the essentials for the upcoming Gawai Dayak and Aidilfitri celebrations,” he said.

In addition, Sulhie emphasised that the programme also demonstrated Saberkas’ effort in encouraging and engaging youths to play a greater role to bring positive impact to the diverse communities they lived in, especially the needy groups.

About 35 volunteers from Saberkas Samariang participated in the programme, where they accompanied the children aged between 6 to 15 to pick their Raya clothing worth RM120 each.
