SIBU, Jan 9: The Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) has once again demonstrated its role as the State’s most dynamic youth body, organising an impressive 310 programmes throughout 2025 and establishing itself as a major force for multi-ethnic youth unity.
In TVS and Ukas news, its president Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the milestone reflects the dedication and commitment of Saberkas leaders and members at all levels, from the State executive committee down to local branches and sub-branches.
“This means that nearly every week, and often almost every day, Saberkas programmes are taking place somewhere across Sarawak,” he said at the Saberkas Central Zone programme on Thursday (Jan 8).
Abdul Karim, who is also Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, added that Saberkas’s active role has not only been recognised at the State level but has also drawn national attention from organisations such as the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
“They are highly impressed by Saberkas’ approach to youth development in Sarawak, including its financial management and programme execution,” he said.
Highlighting Saberkas’ inclusive approach, Abdul Karim noted that the organisation brings together Malays, Chinese, Dayaks, and other communities, prioritising unity over politics, ethnicity, or religion.
“This approach fosters social stability and helps shape future leaders with a ‘Sarawakian outlook’, leaders who prioritise the welfare of all communities, regardless of background,” he said.
Abdul Karim also highlighted Saberkas’s potential to expand further following changes in area demarcation, emphasising the need for the organisation’s leadership to strengthen governance and continue looking after the welfare of its members.
He expressed his vision for Saberkas to one day have its own facilities, including a dedicated building and a brass band, as symbols of the organisation’s strength and identity.
Also present during the programme were Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government and Saberkas vice president Datuk Michael Tiang, Daro assemblyman and Saberkas secretary general Dr Safiee Ahmad, Tellian assemblyman and Saberkas organising secretary Royston Valentine, and Bukit Assek assemblyman and Saberkas S Bukit Assek Branch chairman Chieng Jin Ek. — DayakDaily
