KUCHING, Oct 6: The Sabah Legislative Assembly has been dissolved today, paving the way for the 17th State election to be held within 60 days.
This was announced by now-caretaker Sabah Chief Minister, Hajiji Noor, following a meeting with Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, earlier today.
“With the Yang di-Pertua’s consent, the 16th State assembly has been dissolved effective today,” he said during a press conference in Kota Kinabalu, which was streamed live on Suara.TV’s Facebook.
Hajiji explained that the move was in line with the constitutional process, marking the end of the 16th assembly’s five-year term.
“This will give power to Sabahans to use their democratic rights to decide who will govern them,” he said.
During the press conference, he highlighted what the Sabah government under Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has accomplished, including the Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan aimed to improve agriculture, industry, tourism, human capital, public well-being, and infrastructure.
He said that over the last five years, the government has worked tirelessly to bring meaningful change and growth to the State and its people, as well as taking steps to address longstanding issues, particularly water, electricity, and critical infrastructure, which have burdened Sabahans.
However, he said that their work is not yet finished and sought a fresh mandate from the people to continue what they have started. — DayakDaily
