KUCHING, March 31: The contents of the Federal Constitution Amendment Bill should be revealed to the public first before tabling it in Parliament.

Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) spokesperson Lucas Chin said that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government needs to reveal the contents of the bill, especially to Sarawakians, regarding the restoration of the state’s status and rights.

“We wants the clear content of the rights so we don’t get cheated for the second time.

“In 1976, our rights were stripped because no one knew. But now, they (federal government) want to restore it. It’s right, but we need assurance,” he said in a statement today.

Chin, who is part of the organising team for the 722 rally this year, also reminded Sarawakians to be careful and see the true colours of PH and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

“We need to be aware of their moves whether it’s good or bad. If they don’t follow the people’s voices, they can be kicked out in the coming elections,” he said.

Earlier this month, Minister of Law in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong said the federal cabinet special committee had agreed to amend Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution to restore the status of Sabah and Sarawak as equal partners with Peninsular Malaysia in the federation.

Chin said sources revealed that Sarawak and Sabah PH MPs have been given an internal circular regarding the amendment and it is likely to be tabled, debated and voted on next week. — DayakDaily
