KUCHING, July 1: Sarawak’s digital payment platform, S Pay Global, continues to show positive growth, with the number of registered users reaching 1,587,000 and 94,700 merchants as of June 15, 2025.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) report, Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunications, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, stated that the platform has recorded 138.16 million transactions, with a total value exceeding RM5.21 billion.
“These figures reflect steady growth and the increasing acceptance of digital payments in Sarawak, supporting the region’s efforts towards a more inclusive, cashless digital economy,” he said.
His remarks were delivered via a speech read by the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunications Sarawak (MUT), Syed Mohamad Fauzi Shahab, during the Digital Technology Nexus programme organised by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) at a leading hotel here today.
Julaihi also added that the Sarawak government is taking big data management seriously to ensure the full value of data can be harnessed. This is being done through the development of a comprehensive data governance and management framework, focusing on the human, process, and technology dimensions.
“A phased action plan will be implemented this year, covering policy development, capacity building, and operational execution to ensure Sarawak remains firmly on track as a leader in the digital economy in this region,” he explained. — DayakDaily
