KUCHING, June 30: Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2024 has recorded more than 26,000 festival goers so far — the highest number ever achieved.

Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this record has beaten RWMF’s previous record of 23,000 festival goers in 2019.

Meanwhile, last year’s total was 19,800.

“This year, we welcome more than 26,000 (festival goers) and there’s still some more coming in.

“Probably, we never know, it might even hit 30,000 with a record-breaking (total of festival goers) on the first and second day,” he told reporters during the final day of RWMF 2024 at Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) here today.

He noted that the number of festival goers on the first day of RWMF is always lower compared to attendance on the second and third days.

“But this year, it has gone the opposite way. The Sultan of Selangor (Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj) and I were very surprised. Even Kitaro himself, I think he didn’t expect that kind of crowd,” he added.

Abdul Karim also revealed that RWMF 2024’s ticketing revenue has increased by 47 per cent while the number of festival goers has gone up by 35 per cent.

Additionally, he noted that RWMF ticket buyers stand a chance to win prizes including a 4×4 Mitsubishi Triton as the grand prize. — DayakDaily
