KUCHING, June 29: The heavy rain did not dampen the spirit of festivalgoers to dance the night away at the 27th edition of Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) held at Sarawak Cultural Village here earlier tonight.
The majority of the participants came well-prepared, with many holding up their umbrellas or wearing raincoats.
Due to the rain, the second-day concert, which was supposed to start at 6pm, was rescheduled to 8.15pm.
During the delay, the crowd took shelter at various buildings in the Sarawak Cultural Village.
As the rain subsided, many of them started to flock back to the main arena, waiting eagerly for the performances to begin.
Opening the concert was Sarawakian sape songstress Alena Murang, who serenaded the crowd with her singing while playing the sape at the same time.
Other performers included Taiwanese singer Nini, Algerian Tuareg desert rock quintet ‘Imarhan’ and Sabahan rock band ‘Tuni Sundatang’.
The highlight of the night will be the appearance of Malaysian music legend Dato Zainal Abidin, who will conclude the second night of RWMF 2024.
Gracing the concert were the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and his wife, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin Abdul Rahman. — DayakDaily
