KUCHING, Aug 20: Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) will continue to promote Sarawak as a travel destination by increasing flight connectivity between Sarawak cities and destinations worldwide.

Speaking at the launch of RB Link Destinations with flights to Sibu and Bintulu, its senior vice-president Ng Ai Ling stressed that RB will continue to work with Sarawak Tourism Board to promote Sarawak as a travel destination.

“While promoting RB, we also promote Sarawak as a destination bringing tourists to Sarawak,” she said, adding that the average passenger load of the Kuching–Brunei flight re-introduced since December last year was about 50 per cent.

However, with the change of aircraft from A320 to ATR72, she expects the capacity to increase to 90 per cent. RB offers the Kuching–Brunei flight four times a week and the airlines will increase the frequency to daily at the end of October.

With the two new destinations, Sibu and Bintulu, RB expects to spur tourism and economic growth between Sarawak and Brunei.

“We are very pleased to be able to expand our footprint in Sarawak with two new destinations: Bintulu and Sibu through our brand new innovative product RB Link.

“This allows for more trade and tourism opportunities between the cities, and also provides residents from Bintulu and Sibu with greater travel choices to any of our existing cities within the RB Global network,” said Ng.

RB flies to 24 destinations worldwide, including London, Taiwan, China, Bali, and Brisbane.

Sarawakians can now fly from Kuching, Sibu, and Bintulu to worldwide destinations via transit in Brunei, while foreigners can also reach Sarawak’s major urban centres with the expanded services.

The flights to and from Bintulu and Sibu will begin operating from November 5, 2019 and November 14, 2019 respectively.

The RB Link services connecting the destinations in Sarawak is in partnership with Malindo Air on ATR 72-600 aircrafts, with flights five times a week to Bintulu and six times a week to Sibu.

Promotional airfares from RM195 (return airfares from Sarawak destinations to Brunei) is available for booking now via the RB website www.flyroyalbrunei.com and local travel agents. — DayakDaily
