MIRI, March 2: The function of the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) would be expanded, says Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

“This is part of the state government’s effort to enhance JKKK’s role besides ensuring the community receives government aid and helping us safeguard unity within villages,” he said.

Speaking at the earth-breaking ceremony for the Highland Development Agency project (HDA) in Long Bedian today, he revealed that with this expansion, JKKK has been given the privilage to help identify or recomend contractors for repair works under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).

He also revealed that this month’s allowances for JKKK chairmen and secretaries would be paid accordingly.

“The cabinet has approved for these allowances to be paid. This includes attendance allowances for meetings which is at RM50 per meeting attended,” he added.

The earth-breaking ceremony today was for four projects under HDA in the Long Bedian sub-district. The four projects are tendered at RM56.3 million which includes the construction of bridges and road upgrading within the sub district.

The project is fully funded by the state government.

Meanwhile, touching on Federal Village Community Management Council (MPKKP) in Sarawak, Uggah said there have been no latest updates after the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government collapsed last Monday.

“We hope MPKKP to go down a similar path with what happened to PH,” he said. — DayakDaily
