BUTTERWORTH: In a daring daylight robbery, three men fled with about 10kg of gold from a gold processing factory at Jalan Siram, here today, reports the New Straits Times.
The incident happened about 9.30am when two workers were coming out from the factory, carrying the gold in a bag to a pickup truck.
A red Perodua Bezza then pulled up in front of the vehicle before two men armed with hammers snatched the bag from the workers while the getaway driver remained in the car.
One of the factory’s security guards fired his gun three times at the car but missed.
The shots made the getaway driver panic causing him to sideswipe the car into a parked vehicle before escaping.
When contacted, North Seberang Perai district police chief Superintendent Abd Aziz Daud confirmed the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and armed robbery.
