MIRI, April 28: Motorists can expect to see less traffic congestion along the Jalan Piasau/Jalan Cattleya 5 intersection once the road is widened to improve traffic flow is completed.

The RM48,000 project is scheduled for completion within two weeks.

Works began on Tuesday (April 27) by Miri City Council (MCC).

“The work scope consists of two parts involving the widening of the road for U-Turn at the traffic light at Jalan Piasau/Jalan Pantai and the closure of junction for road users coming from Pulau Melayu side towards Jalan Cattleya,” said Miri Mayor Adam Yii when met at the site today.

He hopes that the project would be able to reduce congestion and improve traffic safety once it is completed.

Yii seen speaking to local media after inspecting the site this morning.

“This area has been a bottleneck for traffic in the morning as we have a lot of vehicles using it, so it has been creating a lot of traffic congestion problems; that is why we came up with this idea (referring to the road improvement along the area),” Yii told reporters.

Also present during the site visit were the Council’s secretary Morshidi Fredrick and the Council’s engineering chief, Abdul Rahman. — DayakDaily
