KUCHING, Oct 25: The road leading from Jalan Main Bazaar (after Jalan Gambier) to Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman will be temporarily closed to traffic from Oct 28 to Nov 5 for the setting up of the Sarawak crafts sales and exhibition area in conjunction with the Sarawak Regatta-Kuching Waterfront Festival 2023.

In a statement today, Kuching District Police Chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the festival’s opening ceremony is fixed for Oct 28, and the closing ceremony will take place on Nov 5.

To facilitate these events, the police will implement road closures and diversions commencing at 7am, and the affected routes will be reopened once the ceremonial events have concluded.

The following roads will be impacted by the closure and diversions:

  • Jalan Wayang and Jalan Main Bazaar — Traffic from Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman will be redirected to the St Mary school’s traffic light
  • Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg and Wawasan
  • Jalan Tabuan traffic light and Mcdouggal
  • The diversion leading to Jalan Temple to Jalan Wayang

Members of the public are advised not to park their vehicles on the roadside or shoulders as this obstructs the flow of traffic.

Public parking facilities are available at UTC Building at Jalan Bukit Mata, Sarawak Plaza Shopping Mall, Kuching Civic Centre, Tun Jugah Building and Medan Pelita Building.

Visitors and festival-goers are urged to adhere to traffic signs and follow the instructions of law enforcement throughout the 10-day duration of the festival.
