Road rage costs offender RM3,500 in court fines after hitting soldier with rotan

KUCHING, April 13: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a man to a fine of RM3,500 or in default to five months imprisonment on a charge of voluntarily causing hurt to a lance corporal by using a rotan cane.

Hamdzah Moamad, 45, pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah.

According to the charge sheet, the accused was found voluntarily causing hurt to a 30-year-old victim by using a rotan, in front of a coffee shop in Malihah, at about 6.15pm on May 1, 2020.

According to the brief facts of the case, during the incident, the victim who was riding on his motorcycle was involved in a car accident with a lady.

The victim tried to talk to the lady nicely but the lady started to scold the victim and his friend and called her friend for help.

A few minutes later, the accused arrived at the scene and hit the victim on the head by using a rotan.

As a result, the victim suffered head injuries which required three stitches at the Sarawak General Hospital.
