KUCHING, Oct 10: Several roads around Kuching Waterfront will be closed or diverted in stages from Oct 13 to Nov 4 to facilitate preparations and events for Sarawak Regatta 2026 and Kuching Waterfront Festival 2026.
Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said events would take place at Kuching Waterfront from Oct 23 to Nov 1, with traffic restrictions introduced to ensure the smooth running of programmes and traffic flow.

According to a media statement issued, road closures will begin at 8am on Oct 13 for tent installation and site preparations along Jalan Gambier towards Jalan Main Bazaar. The restriction will remain in place until midnight on Nov 4 to allow for the removal of tents and post-event arrangements.
For the opening ceremony of Sarawak Regatta and Kuching Waterfront Festival on Oct 23, Jalan Main Bazaar will be closed from Lebuh Wayang between 7am and 6pm.
Additional closures will be imposed from noon to 6pm on the same day at Lebuh Temple towards Lebuh Wayang, the St Mary junction and traffic-light exit towards Lebuh Wayang, as well as the Jalan Pearl junction and traffic-light exit towards Jalan Wawasan.
Road closures will also be enforced on Oct 31 for the opening ceremony of Festival Gendang 2026, scheduled from 6pm to 11pm, along Kuching Waterfront.
The affected locations are the Lebuh Java junction, Jalan Market towards Jalan Gambier, Lebuh Java towards Jalan Gambier, Jalan Courthouse towards Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Gambier towards Jalan Main Bazaar, and Jalan Barrack towards Jalan Courthouse.
Further closures will take place on Nov 1 for the closing ceremony of Sarawak Regatta and Kuching Waterfront Festival.
From 7am to 6pm, the stretch from Lebuh Wayang towards Jalan Main Bazaar will be closed. From noon to 6pm, restrictions will also apply at Lebuh Temple towards Lebuh Wayang, the St Mary junction and traffic-light exit towards Lebuh Wayang, and the Jalan Pearl junction and traffic-light exit towards Jalan Wawasan.
Police advised members of the public attending the events not to park their vehicles along road shoulders in the affected areas.
Motorists are also urged to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes to minimise traffic congestion throughout the event period.
