MIRI, July 4: Road closures and diversions will be implemented at several locations in Miri for the Miri Half Marathon 2026 that will be held tomorrow (July 5) from 3am to 10am.
In a statement, Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said that the event is expected to draw approximately 3,000 local and international runners who will participate in three categories—21km, 10km, and the 5km Fun Run.
The race route will pass through Jalan Bandaraya to Jalan Marina Utama, Pullman Roundabout, Jalan Marina 1, Jalan Marina 3, Jalan Brighton, Marriott Roundabout, Jalan Tanjung, Jalan Luak, Jalan Aru traffic lights (U-turn), and back to Jalan Bandaraya.
“To ensure the smooth running of the event, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) of the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD) will implement road closures and diversions at several locations.
“These areas will be manned by police personnel with assistance from the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) members,” he said.
He added that road closures and diversions will be implemented at the following locations:
- Pullman Roundabout
- Jalan Marina 1/Jalan Bendahara traffic light
- Jalan Marina 3/Jalan Marina Utama traffic light
- Jalan Marina 5/Jalan Brighton traffic light
- Jalan Brighton/Jalan Marina Utama traffic light
- Marriott Roundabout
- Jalan Tanjung traffic light
- Jalan Luak traffic light
- Masjid Luak traffic light
- Jalan Aru traffic light
“Motorists are advised to cooperate and comply with directions issued by police officers to ensure the event proceeds smoothly,” he said.
He also encouraged them to plan their journeys and use alternative routes such as Jalan Airport, while avoiding Jalan Luak, Jalan Brighton, and Jalan Marina Utama during the event to minimise traffic congestion.
As for participants, they are advised to arrive early or park their vehicles at the Marina Phase 1 and Marina Phase 2 parking areas.
