KUCHING, Oct 19: The RM88.98 million Stutong Link Road and Roundabout upgrade project, spanning 3.3km and adhering to the Public Works Department (JKR) U5 road standard, is scheduled for completion by Oct 19, 2028.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas reaffirmed the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s commitment to the project despite initial delays, expressing confidence that collaboration between utility providers and local authorities will ensure a smooth construction process.
“The upgrading work and the new link will resolve the current bottleneck caused by the Kuching-Kota Samarahan Expressway,” he told reporters during the handover ceremony of the project by the Sarawak JKR to the contractor, Ibraco Construction Sdn Bhd, near SMK Tabuan Jaya here today.
Uggah, also the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, explained that upgrading the existing single carriageway to a dual carriageway and converting the Stutong Roundabout into a signalised junction—along with road pavement improvements, new road furniture, and the construction of a 90-meter reinforced concrete bridge over Sungai Stutong—will ease traffic congestion in this part of Kuching and significantly improve accessibility.

He expressed hope that the public would appreciate the GPS government’s commitment to the people of Kuching and emphasised the importance of recognising the significance of these development efforts.
“The contract for the upgrading project was an open tender, and the work will commence on October 20, 2026,” he said.
Also present were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin, Sarawak JKR director Datu Morris Cassidy, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, and Ibraco Construction Sdn Bhd director Anthony S.H.
