SERIAN, Jan 30: Some 64 landowners from Kampung Rayang and Kampung Sebemban today received compensation amounting to about RM8.7 million under Packages 1A and 1B for the construction of the Serian–Gedong–Samarahan Dual Carriageway Highway project.

Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said Packages 1A and 1B cover distances of 9.720 kilometres and 8.543 kilometres, respectively.

He said Package 1A stretches from the Kampung Rayang junction to Tanah Puteh, while Package 1B runs from Tanah Puteh to the Gedong Isthmus.

Officiating at the event at the Kampung Rayang Community Hall here today, Sagah commended the landowners for consenting to the acquisition of their land, allowing the project to commence smoothly.

He said the landowners had granted “early entry”, enabling the contractor to begin work without encountering problems.

“Today, I would like to thank all the landowners for their goodwill in allowing their land to be acquired for the project even before compensation was paid.

“This is a positive sign that the people are eager for development, and I hope this spirit will be emulated by others,” said the Tarat assemblyman.

Sagah noted that once completed in three years, the Serian–Gedong–Samarahan Dual Carriageway Highway project will improve access to schools, hospitals and clinics, as well as benefit local farmers by facilitating the sale of their agricultural produce.

He added that travel time to the city centre will be significantly reduced and traffic congestion alleviated. — DayakDaily
