KUCHING, Nov 29: A 71-year-old local woman in Kuching has lost RM527,130 to an online part-time job scam.
In a statement, Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said that on Sept 1, the victim received a message from an unknown individual on TikTok who offered her a part-time job on a platform known as ‘TK SHOP’.
The suspect promised a commission for each completed task, and the victim was then given several assigned tasks.
“The victim made 23 payment transactions into 16 different bank accounts as instructed. She later realised she had been deceived when she failed to receive the promised commissions,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property, which carries punishment of imprisonment for a term of not less than one year and not more than ten years, whipping, and a fine if convicted. — DayakDaily
