KUCHING, June 22: The Sarawak government has approved RM4.2 million to upgrade the access road to Kampung Apau Nyaring, Tinjar, aimed at improving accessibility and travel comfort for residents in the remote area.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, Miri Division Resident Galong Luang said the project will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase involving an allocation of RM2.7 million, which is currently underway.

He said the scope of the first phase includes the construction of the Sungai Bekata steel bridge and road repair works from CTB Kilometer 10 to Sungai Bekata, which serves as the main route for residents in the area.

He said this following a meeting to discuss issues concerning the access road to Apau Nyaring, chaired by Telang Usan assemblyman Dato Dennis Ngau at the Miri Resident’s Office recently.

To continue the project, the government has also approved an additional RM1.5 million for the next phase, which will involve road repair works from Sungai Bekata to Kampung Apau Nyaring.

Work on site is expected to begin this week and is estimated to take about two months to complete, subject to weather conditions and other technical factors.

According to Galong, the project was initiated following complaints and requests from residents regarding the poor condition of the road, which becomes particularly difficult to traverse during the rainy season.

The road condition had previously affected residents’ daily movements and access to education, healthcare, government services, and economic activities.

He said the project is expected to provide direct benefits to residents by improving travel safety and comfort, while strengthening connectivity between remote communities and service centres. — DayakDaily
