KUCHING, Dec 21: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap today handed over a RM380,000 cheque under the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) to the Kuching Tze Yin Buddhist Orthodox Association to assist in the upgrading of temple facilities.

In a press release, Yap said that the allocation reflects Sarawak’s long-standing inclusive policies, where all religious communities are respected and supported in their roles of promoting moral values, social cohesion, and community well-being.

The press release added that through Unifor, the Sarawak government ensures that assistance is extended fairly and equitably to all faith communities.

Yap highlighted that under the Sarawak Budget 2026, the State government continues to provide increased allocations totalling RM120 million through Unifor to support religious institutions across the State, enabling upgrading works, maintenance, and community-focused programmes.

He added that the allocation for the coming year has also been planned to ensure continuity and sustainability, allowing religious bodies to plan with confidence and carry out their services more effectively.

Meanwhile, he commended the Kuching Tze Yin Buddhist Orthodox Association—established in 1978—which has played an important role in the community.

“Since its founding, the association has remained committed to promoting the great teachings of the Buddha, emphasising compassion, wisdom, and service to society,” he said.

He also lauded the association’s consistent efforts in welfare work and community engagement, noting that such contributions align closely with the Sarawak government’s vision of an inclusive and caring society. — DayakDaily
