KUCHING, Aug 7: The Padawan Maternal and Child Health Clinic (KKIA) at Batu 10 has received a major upgrade with a new building completed under a RM300,000 Phase Two Expansion Project.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the additional facility is expected to improve healthcare services for more than 30,000 residents across more than 50 housing estates and five villages within the clinic’s service area.
Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang said the expansion was necessary as the Kota Padawan and Batu 10 areas continue to develop, resulting in increasing demand for healthcare services.
“This additional building is not just about providing more space, but also enhancing the clinic’s capacity to deliver more comfortable and organised services to the community,” he said at the opening ceremony of the new additional building today.
The new 56-by-28-foot building features facilities including a meeting room, a file storage room, a women’s health examination room, and a dental clinic.
It is also equipped with air-conditioning systems, while improvement works included the reconstruction of drains, the provision of parking spaces, and the repainting of the existing building’s exterior.
Lo said the latest upgrade continues efforts to strengthen healthcare facilities in the area, which has undergone several phases of development since the clinic began operations in 1994.
He added that the upgraded facilities should be fully utilised for services such as early health screenings, antenatal and postnatal care, child immunisation, health education, and regular medical check-ups.
Also present were Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai, Batu 10 Chinese Mutual Benefit Association chairman Lim Eng Huat, Kuching Divisional Health Officer Dr Johnny Pangkas, and Kota Sentosa Health Clinic Family Medicine Specialist Dr Jennet Micheal. — DayakDaily
