KUCHING, Sept 24: The RM300,000 Phase 2 upgrading project for Kota Sentosa Town Square has been completed, delivering improved functionality, safety and comfort for residents through enhancements requested by the local community under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).
The completion of the project was witnessed by Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap together with officers from the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) during a site visit to the town square today.
Among the upgrading works carried out were the installation of louvres and awnings, the extension of the main hall floor area, the installation of stage railings, as well as the upgrading and replacement of faulty electrical wiring for the existing lighting system.
The project was implemented by MPP, with MF Jaya Bina Sdn Bhd appointed as the contractor.
Yap said the successful completion of Phase 2 reflected the Sarawak government’s commitment to ensuring development allocations under the RTP are translated into meaningful improvements that directly benefit the people.
“Development must be people-oriented and based on actual needs on the ground. Kota Sentosa Town Square is an important community facility used for various activities and programmes. It is therefore important that the facilities are safe, functional and comfortable for the people,” he said in a statement today.
He noted that the Phase 2 works built upon earlier improvements carried out at the town square, further addressing the needs raised by local residents and community groups.
“As a representative of the people, my responsibility does not end when an allocation is approved. I will continue to follow up with the implementing agency, monitor the progress of projects and ensure that completed facilities provide the intended benefit to the community,” he said.
Yap also expressed his appreciation to MPP and the contractor for their cooperation and commitment in successfully delivering the project.
He emphasised that the RTP remains an important mechanism for addressing grassroots infrastructure needs, particularly smaller-scale projects that have a direct and immediate impact on residents’ daily lives.
“This is what development should be about — listening to the people, identifying their needs, securing the necessary funding, implementing the project and ensuring that the completed facility can be enjoyed by the community,” he added.
With the completion of Phase 2, Kota Sentosa Town Square is now better equipped to serve as a community hub, providing a more conducive and comfortable venue for residents, organisations and community groups to organise activities, programmes and public gatherings. – DayakDaily
