KUCHING, June 2: The gong replica, a symbolic landmark of Dayak heritage in Kampung Quop Dayak, will be upgraded with an allocation of RM30,000.

He said the site has strong potential to be developed into a roadside stopover and photo attraction for visitors passing through the area.

“I want this replica to be enhanced so that it closely resembles a real gong and appears more attractive, making it a source of pride for local residents while also drawing the attention of road users,” he said as per reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).

Hamzah also commended the Kampung Quop Dayak community for their continued commitment to preserving cultural identity and traditional customs despite rapid modernisation.

He stressed that the gong is more than just a traditional musical instrument, but a meaningful symbol of heritage, history and pride for the Dayak community that should be safeguarded for future generations.

“Although times have changed and today’s generation is increasingly exposed to technology, it is important that cultural symbols such as the gong are preserved so that the history and traditions of the Dayak community are not forgotten,” he added. — DayakDaily
