KUCHING, Dec 14: Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Ibrahim has announced a RM30,000 grant for the Kuching Gong De Temple Devotees Association in recognition of its contributions to community welfare and social harmony.
According to him, support for temples and other places of worship through the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) reflects Sarawak’s way of life, where communities of different faiths coexist and support one another.
“Continued unity, interaction and mutual respect among Sarawakians are essential for the State’s progress, adding that prosperity must be shared across all communities,” he said in a recent statement.
Hamzah also commended the association for its welfare initiatives, including the distribution of 56 food baskets and assistance to the needy in the Stakan area.
Meanwhile, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Stakan Branch chairman and honorary chairman of the temple, Cr Dato Sim Kiang Chiok, praised the association for its consistent efforts in preserving cultural traditions and supporting society through charitable activities such as food aid and welfare assistance.
“Values such as kindness, respect, harmony and service to others, as practised by the association, form the foundation of Sarawak’s multiracial and multireligious society,” he said.
