KUCHING, Aug 10: The RM3.2 million village road upgrading projects under Sarawak government’s Project Rakyat 2020 funding for Segubang, Batu Kawa, here are expected to commence in September this year.

Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said, similar to other projects, the unexpected delay to open the tender was due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Movement Control Order (MCO).

“Looking forward for the award of tender to the successful contractor and commencement of work in September after tender closed on 12 August, 2020,” Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, said in his Facebook posting yesterday.

“Everyone’s safety and live is our top priority. We want everyone live to see the implementation of the projects and to enjoy the success of Batu Kawa,” he added.

He also hoped, with the new federal government, funding for Phase 3 of Batu Kawa Riverbank Park which is under the Sarawak government’s Project Rakyat 2019 will be allocated so that tender can be called soon.

“Need to fight for funding for Phase 4 of Batu Kawa Riverbank Park which will be the final missing piece with a bridge across a small river to link the RM10 million Sarawak government’s Project Rakyat 2019 riverbank protection for Kampung Rantau Panjang,” he said.

Dr Sim said once completed, Batu Kawa Riverbank Park will be more than 1 kilometre of walkway from Batu Kawa old town to Kampung Rantau Panjang.

With a size of 15.5 acres, this will make it one of the biggest freshwater wetland parks with all the facilities for the local community in Kuching.-DayakDaily
